Fortnite has now been downloaded more than 140 million times

Update, August 10: Fortnite developer Epic Games has updated us on the battle royale’s total player count.

Fortnite's place at the top spot has, for the moment at least, been very clearly secured. Total downloads of the game have topped 125 million since the battle royale's release in 2017, with reports of 40 million logging in to play every single month. To put that in perspective, that's about half the monthly player count MOBA giant League of Legends - largely billed as the biggest game in the world - was reaching at its peak. That overall download count has likely grown since Epic announced it at their Fortnite celebration, which took place at E3 earlier this summer. That will have been helped by Fortnite's release on Android. The iOS competitor was one of the last modern systems to get access to the game, after releases across all major consoles, as well as on PC and Apple devices. Epic's release of the game on Android garnered some controversy, but fortunately for them, it seems that that has paid off.
