16 League of Legends pros have been punished for toxic behaviour
16 professional League of Legends players and coaches have been sanctioned ahead of the Worlds 2018 group stages. Four players have been issued fines, while formal warnings were issued to a further 12 figures from the game’s professional scene. Riot discovered the transgressions during “routine behaviour checks,” which took place last week, looking into matches played during September. According to a statement, they found that “sixteen players and coaching staff from eight teams across five regions were found to have exhibited various levels of negative behaviour in [Korean server] solo queue.” For four of those found to be in violation of Riot’s policies, the company felt that their behaviour warranted monetary fines. Gambit esports’ Diamondprox and Invictus’ TheShy have both been fined US$1,000 for their negative behaviour. Korean second seed Afreeca Freecs’ head coach was fined $1,500 - his increased penalty the result of being reported for toxic behaviour “in more than 70% of the solo queue games he played in September.” You can read more in a statement issued by the developer earlier today.
