AMD RX 590 or RX 680? Either way there’s surely a new Radeon graphics card coming
The groundswell of new AMD graphics card rumours means that we can be pretty sure the red team is planning something. Whether that’s a complete 12nm refresh of its Polaris lines, with an RX 680 and RX 670, or a higher-clocked card with the RX 590 designation, there are surely new GPUs on the way. The latest of these rumours is pointing more in the RX 590 direction, with both a 3DMark Time Spy benchmark listing and a leaked production schedule giving the RX 590 name more credence. Both of the latest leaks could easily be fabricated, and even if they’re not, the naming could change between now and whenever the eventual launch happens to be. There are threads linking all of the rumours that have been swirling around recently, and the mention of higher clock speeds and a 10% performance boost for the RX 590 over the old-school RX 580 only seem to lend some vague notions of veracity to them. Nothing more is mentioned about the potential make up of the new graphics card, beyond the higher frequency GPU, so we don’t know for sure whether we’re looking at a 12nm AMD RX 680 refresh or something more pedestrian. With the RX 590 name, however, it’s looking more like the latter.
