Project Warlock is badass ’90s FPS by a developer who barely remembers the ’90s
The '90s brought about enduring phenomenons such as the Spice Girls, Jurassic Park and being disappointed in Star Wars - but it also gave birth to the FPS, which quickly became the hottest gaming genre on the planet. There's a new retro-style FPS out next week that harks back to the simpler era of the '90s, with one interesting point - it's from a developer who barely even saw the '90s. Project Warlock is out on October 18 as a timed exclusive on GOG.com, and it's an FPS that homages '90s shooters such as Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and Blood - except with the twist that it's primarily being made by 19-year-old Jakub Cislo. So he was probably born in 1999, and if we assume Jakub was 8 when he started playing big FPSs, that means he grew up playing Bioshock and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - not Doom, or even Doom 3. Which blows our sadly aging minds, if we could remember what we were talking about. Regardless, Project Warlock seems a deeply interesting shooter. It boasts 60 levels and no procedural level generation, 72 enemies, 38 weapons, 8 spells, and it even has perks.
