Resident Evil 2’s scariest monster is also its best meme – Mr. X gon’ give it to ya

While Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is the game best-known for siccing a giant, unkillable monster on you, Resident Evil 2 got a taste of that sort of thrill with Mr. X. Despite stalking you with deadly implacability throughout more than one segment of the remake, X’s hat and trenchcoat - and the way he gingerly treats doors - has given him a sort of goofy charm. So much so that I’m ready to name ‘Mr. X gon’ give it to ya’ as the best gaming gag of 2019. If you’ve yet to see what surprises the remake holds, be warned that you’ll see some spoilers below - albeit minor ones largely focused around the jump scares of Mr. X’s varied appearances. Mr. X, otherwise known as the Tyrant, makes his first appearance about halfway through your exploration of the police station. From there, he chases you throughout the building while you navigate other monsters and attempt to solve puzzles, all while listening for the telltale footsteps that indicate X’s presence. Hear a door open, turn around, and then he coldcocks you in the damn face.
