Valve says Epic exclusivity for Metro Exodus “is unfair to Steam customers”

January 28, 2019 Valve's message for prospective Metro Exodus players on Steam characterises the late-game platform switch as "unfair."

Metro Exodus will launch exclusively on the Epic Games store, but now Valve has detailed what to expect for those who’ve already purchased the game on Steam. All existing pre-orders will be honoured, and “Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC” without issue. Steam pre-orders are still open for $59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99 if you want the game from Valve, but those are set to close later today, well ahead of the Metro Exodus release date. The game will be available for a discount on the Epic store in some regions - but not the UK - so you’ll likely be paying a bit more if you want to secure a Steam copy before it’s too late. In a message posted to the game’s Steam page, Valve says “We think the decision to remove the game is unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period. We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale through the February 15th release date, but we were only recently informed of the decision and given limited time to let everyone know.”
