Halo: The Master Chief Collection will not run public tests before E3

There won’t be any public testing of Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s PC edition before E3, a 343 employee has confirmed via Reddit. In a thread dedicated to the latest Halo Community update, 343's community lead briefly explained that development is taking somewhat longer than expected.

“Currently it doesn’t look like public flighting will begin prior to E3,” 343 community director Brian Jarrard wrote. “The team has made a lot of progress on a number of areas but everything is just taking time (in some cases longer than initially anticipated.”

We’ve known for a while that the Halo: MCC tests could be delayed, and Halo community members even predicted the tests would fall after E3 back in April. Jarrard has explained that 343 is being as upfront about the development process as possible, but that necessarily comes with the risk of schedules changing along the way.

The reaction on Reddit has generally been supportive, with users saying that they’re content to wait a bit longer if that means a more polished test product and a less burned-out development team.

“Take as much time as you need to do it right,” wrote user Derpface123. “What people need to understand is that PC games don’t get invalidated/made inaccessible by the release of new, potentially non-backwards-compatible consoles; once a game is out on PC, it’s out forever.”
