Minecraft’s player count is now more than 176 million
May 20, 2019 Minecraft's player count continues its upward trajectory.
Minecraft celebrated its tenth anniversary last week, using the opportunity to announce a brand-new game in the form of Minecraft Earth. But as well as Mojang's apparent affinity for Pokemon Go, Microsoft also revealed new sales figures for the iconic block-builder.
In an announcement over the weekend, the publisher said that "Minecraft has sold more than 176 million copies to-date in virtually every country in the world." To put that in perspective, if Minecraft were a country, those numbers would make it the eighth-largest in the world.
Those numbers are, of course, not unique to PC - they'll include console figures, as well as the mobile-specific Pocket Edition - but that doesn't mean they're not mind-bogglingly impressive. For context, other than Tetris (which could rival Minecraft for the title of best-selling game ever) the only game to surpass 100 million sales is Grand Theft Auto V. Publisher Take-Two Interactive recently announced that that game had reached 110 million sales, adding ten million in just six months.
