Tencent is reportedly working on a mobile version of League of Legends
Tencent is reportedly working on a mobile version of League of Legends. According to a recent report from Reuters, the Chinese publisher is working with developer Riot Games to create the new game.
Tencent has been the majority shareholder in Riot since 2011, and fully acquired the company in 2015, but adapting the developer’s only major release has proved difficult. Reuters’ report claims that Riot rejected a proposal from Tencent to create a mobile version of the game several years ago, causing the publisher to launch mobile MOBAs Honour of Kings and Arena of Valor in its place.
Details of a mobile version are extremely scarce, but according to Reuters, one source says that Tencent and Riot have been working on a mobile port of the game for more than a year. Another source says that the game is unlikely to launch in 2019, but there’s no official confirmation of either of those statements at the moment. We’ve reached out to Riot for clarification, and will update when we know more.
